During 2013, the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) released an updated Internal Control – Integrated Framework to reflect the increasing complexity of internal controls in recent years, particularly in the areas of outsourced service providers and technology. This updated framework is displayed below in what is known as the COSO cube.

The intent of the updated framework is to provide better guidance to management and those charged with governance in fulfilling their internal control responsibilities and to help entities address future changes.
